Daniel Fast 2018

We invite you to join in a 3 week fast from 8th-28th January 2018

Last year over a 100 of us from Burlington joined with many from ICC to fast, pray and worship through the first three weeks of the year. It was an amazing time with God coming close to so many, speaking clearly, healing, commissioning and encouraging.

The Leadership felt it was a fantastic way to start the year and therefore invite you to join in again.

There are many ways to fast. We would like you to fast in the way that is appropriate for you. Perhaps you would like to join the in the Daniel Fast as outlined below. However, it may be more useful for you to fast from your favourite past time, a habit such as computer games or TV or one element of your diet such as caffeine or alcohol. Decide what you are going to do, Tell someone else to hold you accountable and shape the fast in a way that helps you to position yourself to hear from God and grow.

The Daily Material for the 2018 Daniel Fast is available in printed form from the church office or can be downloaded here.

More information about the Daniel Fast Method

The Daniel Fast is a method of fasting used by hundreds of thousands of Christians throughout the world. The fast is based on the fasting experiences of the prophet Daniel along with standard Jewish fasting principles.
The Daniel Fast is a partial fast, meaning that some foods are eaten and other are restricted.

An overview of the food and drinks to be removed as well as foods to eat can be found here and recipe suggestions here.

First and foremost, the fast is a spiritual discipline where followers of Jesus Christ can draw nearer to God and focus more of their attention on Him and His ways. In today’s busy and distracting culture, entering into the fasting experience is like pushing the pause button in a hectic life and centering more on the rest that Jesus offers.

This quieter and more focused time allows you to hear the still small voice of the Holy Spirit as He reveals God’s truth and direction for your life.

We are thrilled to be joining Ipswich International Church in fast from 8th to 28th January as a way of giving God our first fruits. After the feasting of the Christmas season, starting the new year with fasting is a practice many churches and christians find hugely beneficial. We would love to invite all at Burlington to join in for as much of the three week fast as they feel able. Please do not be put off if you cannot commit to all the time, perhaps do the first week or push into doing ten days.

There is more information in this Powerpoint presentation.

As before we will have a number of touchpoints, an active Facebook page, daily emails as well as printed copies of the bible study material written by us and IIC.

It would be VERY helpful for you to let us know that you are joining in with the fast. We can then add you to the Facebook page if required but also make sure you have the material written.
Please reply to Claire on claire.earl@burlingtonbaptist.org.uk by 8th Jan 2018.

As part of our fast there will be a number of opportunities for us to join with others and make space to hear God. We invite everyone to these touchpoints whether you are fasting or not. Please do come and be part of committing 2018 to God.
