Previous Series ...Challenge ChristmasTeaching series: Christmas 2009 The nation (well some!) have come to love the Top Gear challenges. You may have your favourite. Vietnam? Sailing to France in a car? Sending a rocket-propelled mini down a ski slope? They make great entertainment partly because they are daft, but also because they are demanding, even dangerous. Maybe you prefer the “star in a reasonably priced car” challenge, or once in a while you just try it yourself on the way home from work! There is something about a challenge that entices us. (If you have never watched Top Gear think Challenge Anneka with more danger and less purpose!)At the first Christmas God handed out several challenge cards to the human players in the story: Mary, a teenage peasant girl; Joseph, an apprentice carpenter; some country boys watching sheep; a few city slickers from abroad; and a tyrant king called Herod. At first glance these challenges seemed dafter than Top Gear’s. They were certainly more demanding and dangerous for all of them. It was definitely Challenge Christmas.
As you watch from your sofa, remote in hand, soon the credits will roll and another Top Gear challenge will be over. After all, it was their challenge not ours. Challenge Christmas was different. As you watch the various players take up their challenge (or not) you become aware that the credits never roll. The challenge goes on. Their challenge becomes your challenge as we become part of the story they began. Daft? Yes, for sure … and yet wiser than the greatest wisdom.
Will you take the challenge or switch the channel?

Will Revival Come?Teaching Series Summer 2009
Where I grew up in South Wales there are huge churches on almost every street corner amongst the mining villages that once were. These churches were built to accommodate the thousands of men and women whose lives were transformed by God’s power during the Welsh Revival. The plethora of huge buildings that dominate the landscape is still a visible reminder of the way God had moved in such power. Much of my early preaching was done in these churches now occupied, in the main, by a handful of remaining members. Elderly men and women would tell me, with brightness in their eyes, the stories of these churches that were full, literally bursting at the seams, the transformed lives, the hundreds of baptisms, the miracles, the crescendo of praise that was all part of their story. Now many of these churches stand empty or have been sold as craft shops, mosques or carpet warehouses. That’s the situation that Malachi, the Old Testament prophet, finds himself in. There had been a great and mighty move of God but now almost all that was left was a distant memory. Could God do it again? Would God do it again? Or were those glory days over? Malachi’s answer was “Yes, God could do it again. Yes, God would do it again but they would need to get ready…” Malachi is a book for everyone who wants to be ready for God to move again in mighty power: a power that would shake the church, rescue the lost and transform the world. Please join us Sunday by Sunday at 10.45am. We would love to welcome you. Simon Harris

Heaven's TenMain Teaching Theme - Autumn 2008
An ancient Jewish blessing, expresses the longing in most of us: “live long & prosper!” It was a longing for the prosperity of a life lived with purpose, a life that was rich in meaning where we were at one with ourselves, our neighbours, our world and our God. It was the longing for a life well lived. Above all the strivings of each day it is this life that we long for too. But how do we get it?
If you have ever played the computer game “The Sims” you will know the challenge of creating an environment where everybody can flourish. Thirty centuries ago, God gave us the answer. In ten simple phrases, totalling little more than three hundred words in English, God gave us the secret of “living well.” (Deut 5:29)
Whilst so much has changed since then, the secret to living hasn’t. Join us week by week to discover that this ancient code has as much as ever to say to our longings for life and prosperity.
EVERY SUNDAY 10.45am His authorised biographies tell a very different story. They speak of Jesus as passionate, confrontational, exclusive, even extreme. What is the truth of this radical Galilean prophet who claimed to be God? Join us week by week on a Sunday (10.45am), and in your Small Group, to discover the man who changed the world forever. In 40 Days of Purpose we answered the question: What on earth am I here for? For 40 Days, beginning on Sunday February 10th 2008: In order to benefit from 40 Days of Community you must be part of a small group. If you are not part of a small group, please contact our associate minister, Heather Marsden and she will be glad to link you up. We will kick things off with an evening together, including a hot meal, on Tuesday 5th February, 7.15 pm. Please book your place through your Small Group Leader. Each Sunday Celebration will begin at 10.45am. For many the real story of their lives is marked by disappointment, fear and a general confusion about what life is really all about. In contrast, God’s story is one of love for this hurting, broken world, a story of his coming to rescue us, to bring us hope for now and the future. How then do we help people discover God’s story? The answer: our story. Our story connects with their story because we know what it is like to be disappointed, confused and fearful. But our story also connects with God’s story because of what we have discovered in him. Therefore our story helps connect their story with God’s story. Please join us week by week and discover the buzz of connecting. All services start at 10.45am. Sunday 13th January Sunday 20th January Sunday 27th January Sunday 3rd February John 8:32 - 36 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” …. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. Galatians 5:1 It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Yet so often in our Christian lives we can feel anything but free, and these truths can so easily become mere words devoid of any connection to our everyday lives. What is it like to be free in Christ, how can I get there and how can I stay there? This is a series for all who long to rid themselves of every tie and chain that holds them back from becoming all God wants them to be. It’s for all who long to be free to make a difference in God’s world. We will be exploring this freedom week by week on Sunday mornings and in our Small Groups. The Sunday preacher unless otherwise stated will be our Senior Minister, Revd Simon Harris. Please do join us. Missed a week? We will also be following this series in our small groups. Over these Advent Sundays we want to push aside tradition and let the truth shine as brightly as that Bethlehem star. This truth, which is far more engaging than any tradition, is life-changing and, literally, world transforming. Have you cracked it? Have you discovered the truth from the tradition? If you have, it will be “good news of great joy!” (Luke 2:11) (All Services start at 10.45 unless indicated otherwise) Sunday 3rd December Sunday 10th December Sunday 17th December Christmas Day Sunday 31st December
